Starting her career as a ballet dancer, Debby soon became too tall. She was spotted by the famous ‘Bluebells’ and offered a contract to dance at ‘The Lido’ in Paris’s Champs Elysées and in Las Vegas.
Then followed a number of years as a successful leg model and internationally on the catwalk for fashion houses such as Chanel, Dior and Gucci. She then opened her own modelling agency which was at the top of its league throughout the 80’s and 90’s culminating in four branches across the South East of England in London’s Regent Street, Brighton, Guildford and Southampton.
Ballet Stretch is a class created by Debby as an extension of her ballet and modelling career.
The ballet elements of the class will give you cardiovascular fitness, strengthen your leg muscles and help to improve bone density while working on core strength, lengthening muscles and rebalancing the body. Stretching is important for overall flexibility. Poorly stretched muscles are prone to injury and do not move as well.
If you have always wanted to bring out the inner ballerina in you and lack the motivation to get down to the gym for leg presses and boring time on the cross trainer, this is the class to try. For the body you want- firm and toned, slim stomach, fantastic posture, strong lean muscles and a clear relaxed mind. For anyone of any age, shape, size or fitness level, Ballet Stretch is the class for you.
Pilates can help improve problems such as:
- Sacroiliac joint problems, including pelvic girdle pain and pubic symphasis dysfunction (PGP & PSD)
- Degenerative disc disease / Post operative exercise guidance and rehabilitation exercises
- Non-specific lower back pain and strategies for chronic pain management
- Knee injury and post operative rehabilitation
- Therapeautic exercises for neck and shoulder pain, including whiplash
- Poor sports performance, including hamstring injuries
- Hip replacement rehabilitation and recovery
- Arthritis care
- Poor breathing patterns associated with asthma, stress and anxiety
Gentle Rehabilitation Pilates utilises gentle exercises that encourage co-activation of the local and global muscles responsible for stability and functional movement patterns, you will learn how to improve your posture, kinaesthetic awareness (movement sense) and improve normal every day functioning, and sport performance.
Keiran Mellikof Dynamic Pilates is an extreme version of pilates, with elements of aerobics and body weight exercises. It works every part of your body and can burn up to 400 calories in one hour which is the equivalent equivalent of doing 1 hour of tennis or circuit training in the gym. The system will flatten your abs, strengthen your back and improve your balance and flexibility with almost zero impact exercises.
Whilst many back care specialists deal with treating the symptoms Keiran can often treat the cause of your back problems and as you age, spine mobility and good posture will play a key role in your greater fitness
Bloomsbury studio runs Yoga classes which are suitable for both beginners and experienced people.
Yoga is a traditional spiritual practice for uniting body and mind, through the practice of physical postures known as ‘Asanas’ combined with awareness of the breath.
Regular practice of Yoga releases tensions in the body and can lead to overall improvements in health and well-being including:
- decreasing blood pressure
- lowering the pulse rate
- improving circulation by gently stretching muscles and joints and massaging the various organs
- transporting nutrients and oxygen throughout the body flushing out toxins from the system
- Weight reduction + muscle toning
- strengthening and toning the core
- increasing muscle definition throughout the body
- stimulating flaccid, weak or lazy muscles to shed excess flab
- increasing metabolism so fat is converted to muscle and energy
- reducing the level of the stress hormone, cortisol
- increasing the level of the neurotransmitter dopamine, which lifts the mood to create a feeling of happiness and harmony
Kundalini Yoga is known as the Yoga of Awareness. It is a potent combination of physical postures (asanas), breath work (pranayama), movement, meditation, chanting and deep relaxation, all of which help to strengthen the nervous system, balance the glandular system, purify the body and calm the mind. It helps release stress, promotes both physical and emotional wellbeing and ultimately helps to awaken the practitioner to their higher nature.
Come and discover how Kundalini Yoga can help you find your inner beauty, improve your health, provide stress relief, be happier and build positive relationships in your life. Anyone can practise Kundalini Yoga and no experience is required.
Ballet classes are low impact but high intensity. Helping to create and maintain a lean and toned physique. In Ballet, your body is actively engaged in movement, so it helps you to lose weight and improve posture.
